Dental Implants

If you are missing teeth you may be particularly aware of their importance to your appearance and dental health.  All of your teeth work together to help you chew, speak and smile.  When teeth are missing it is difficult to do these basic things.  Even the loss of a tooth can cause your mouth to shift and your face to look older.  Fortunately, missing teeth can be replaced and they should be so that you are able to chew, speak and smile.

A dental implant is much like a natural tooth, which has a root in your jaw and is topped with a crown that you can see coming out of your gums.  When an implant is placed a titanium post is placed in the jaw bone and acts like a tooth root.  Then an implant crown designed to specifically fit your mouth is placed on top of the post emerging through your gums.  An implant is secure and stable and is similar to your remaining natural teeth allowing you to chew, speak and smile.

Since implants require a minor surgery all patients should be in good health in order  to be a dental implant candidate.
